How I saved my time (and sanity) and enjoy doing activities with my kids!
I began doing activities with my oldest son when he was 2 years old and I had a 3 month old baby boy.
My boys have have always been very active and didn’t like to sit and color… and worksheets? No way that was happening.
I struggled with what activities my child liked to do and searched through blogs upon blogs to find activities to try (this was pre-Pinterest or TikTok!). It was a never ending rabbit hole of information (feel me TikTok users?).
I didn’t know where to start and when I did try an activity, it was often a failure because I either didn’t have the supplies, or my child wasn’t interested.
Frustrating!
I finally learned how to look for cues from my child on what activities might work, and even better, I learned how I can make an activity more interesting to him.
I realized what I didn’t need was MORE ideas… Instead I needed just a few simple ideas to act on and actually do, and some accountability to do it (hence, I started Hands On As We Grow).
I realized simplicity and accountability was key to success with activities for super busy moms like us, especially when we have a newborn, or other distractions around (like homeschooling older kids, or working from home).
This simplicity and accountability has lead me to creating activity plans for moms of young kids at home.
Motherhood did not come naturally for me. (I was looking for answers on everything, I literally kept spreadsheets of sleeping schedules, I didn’t trust my intuition…).
It helped me connect with my oldest, so that his love bucket was filled up and it allowed him to continue to play on his own without needing 100% of my attention so that I could focus on my newborn at the time.
This continued through their childhoods and having another baby.

These activity plans are not meant to replace any kind of curriculum you have for your classroom, but can be used to supplement what you are already learning in your curriculum with some hands-on activities to reinforce their learning.

Most of our activities in these books require supplies that are very common around your house, or are common craft supplies that you’ll use over and over again.
As a frugal stay at home mom, I would often make substitutions for activity supplies based on what I had around the house.
You can get by really inexpensively to do almost all the activities.
The one thing to stock up on is Painter’s Tape and some kind of art paper. Those are a little more expensive, but last a long time (and believe me, they are definitely worth it!).

Plus these are all very little prep, so you get to spend that time WITH your child instead of getting it all ready.
